The Crush Bar Mission Statement is simple: To provide a safe space for queer and marginalized communities to enjoy local beverages, snacks and entertainment.
How did we get here? Crush Bar & Tap was conceived in desire AND suffering. A desire for love, understanding and connection with humanity. And suffering for what did not yet exist here in Santa Barbara. A safe space, an inclusive space, a loving respectful space for all to enjoy.
Through Covid, the show Schitt’s Creek was a staple in our family. We were lifted and inspired by the love, relationships and connection that made the show so incredible. While watching it, the idea of opening a safe space came to fruition, an “Apothecary” type of space but one that you could sit down, enjoy locally sourced wine, beer, snacks, and take a breath. Relax. Believe for a moment that everything will be OK.
Days after we opened Crush Bar, we realized that all of our staff (including the owners) identified as queer, so we decided to make Crush Bar an “official” Queer Bar, an all-inclusive space where all identities are welcome. It is our hope that you will find Crush Bar & Tap a safe space that is your home away from home.
At Crush Bar we serve locally sourced goods for your dining pleasure. It is our desire to work with other small businesses, humans working hard on things they are passionate about. We buy our cheeses from a small family farm in Cambria called Step Ladder. We buy our hummus and pita chips from a Santa Barbara company called Baba Hummus. We buy all our pickled veggies from Santa Barbara’s own Pacific Pickle Works. Most of our beers and wines are all locally sourced.
We want to highlight all of these amazing small businesses that are working hard to do what they love every day. Our family has been fortunate at Crushcakes to be here and serving our community since 2008. Now it is our turn to give back to our community through Crush Bar & Tap. We hope you will come by, relax, have a drink and be a part of it too. Its pretty exciting.
